Falafel Mixture
- 1 can chickpeas, drained and rinsed
- 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
- 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1 teaspoon coriander
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- Salt to taste
- Pepper to taste
For Cooking
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
Instructions
- Preheat the air fryer: Set your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) and allow it to preheat while you prepare the falafel mixture.
- Prepare the falafel mixture: In a food processor, add the chickpeas, parsley, cilantro, onion, garlic, cumin, coriander, baking powder, salt, and pepper. Pulse the ingredients until they are well blended but still slightly chunky for texture.
- Form falafel balls: Using your hands or a spoon, shape the mixture into small balls or patties, roughly the size of a golf ball for even cooking.
- Apply olive oil: Lightly brush or spray each falafel ball with olive oil. This helps achieve a crispy, golden exterior during air frying.
- Arrange in air fryer basket: Place the falafel balls in a single layer inside the air fryer basket, making sure they do not touch each other to allow proper air circulation.
- Cook the falafel: Air fry the falafel at 375°F (190°C) for 15-20 minutes. Flip them halfway through the cooking time to ensure even browning on all sides.
- Remove and serve: Once the falafel are golden brown and crisp, remove them from the air fryer. Serve warm with your choice of dipping sauce or as part of a meal.
Notes
- Do not over-process the mixture to keep some texture for the best falafel bite.
- Adjust salt and spices according to your taste preference.
- Use a cooking spray if you prefer less oil but still want crispness.
- Ensure falafel are spaced out in the basket for even cooking and crisping.
- Falafel can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated in the air fryer for best results.
