Description
Learn how to make a refreshing and visually stunning Blue Milk Tea at home, a colorful and delightful twist on traditional milk tea. This Asian-inspired beverage features butterfly pea flower tea, creating a vibrant blue hue that transforms into a lovely purple with a squeeze of lemon juice.
Ingredients
Scale
For the Blue Tea:
- 2 teaspoons butterfly pea flower tea (or 2 tea bags)
- 1 cup hot water
- 1–2 teaspoons honey or simple syrup (to taste)
For Assembly:
- 1/2 cup milk (dairy or non-dairy)
- 1/2 cup ice cubes
- Optional: tapioca pearls for boba-style tea
- Mint leaves for garnish
Instructions
- Steep the Blue Tea: Steep butterfly pea flower tea in hot water for 5–7 minutes until a deep blue color develops. Remove the flowers or tea bags and stir in honey or sweetener while still warm. Let cool to room temperature or chill in the fridge.
- Assemble the Drink: In a glass, add ice and pour in the sweetened blue tea. Slowly pour milk over the top to create a beautiful layered effect. Stir before drinking. Add cooked tapioca pearls at the bottom if desired for a fun boba version. Garnish with mint leaves if serving immediately.
Notes
- To turn the milk tea purple, squeeze in a little lemon juice—acid changes the pH and transforms the blue tea into violet.
- Use sweetened condensed milk for a creamier, dessert-like variation.
