Description

Bobby Flay’s Salisbury Steak with Mushroom Gravy is a classic comfort food dish that features tender ground beef patties smothered in a rich and savory mushroom gravy. This hearty meal is perfect for a cozy dinner with family or friends.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Beef Patties:

  • 1 1/2 pounds ground beef (85/15)
  • 1/3 cup plain breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup whole milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

For the Mushroom Gravy:

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 medium yellow onion (finely chopped)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 8 ounces cremini or button mushrooms (sliced)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves (or 1/2 teaspoon dried)
  • Chopped parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Beef Patties: In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, salt, and pepper. Shape into oval patties.
  2. Sear the Patties: Heat olive oil in a skillet, sear the patties until browned, then set aside.
  3. Make the Mushroom Gravy: In the same skillet, sauté onion, garlic, and mushrooms. Stir in flour, then gradually whisk in beef broth. Add thyme and simmer.
  4. Simmer and Serve: Return the patties to the pan, cover, and simmer until cooked through. Garnish with parsley and serve hot.

Notes

  • Serve over mashed potatoes, egg noodles, or rice.
  • For a richer gravy, stir in a splash of heavy cream at the end.
  • Ground turkey or chicken can be used as a leaner alternative.
