Description

These Cheddar Biscuits are a savory delight, perfect as a side dish or snack. Flaky and filled with cheesy goodness, they are quick to make and even quicker to disappear! The sharp cheddar cheese adds a rich flavor that complements the buttery, tender biscuit.

Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

Wet Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (cold and cubed)
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk (cold)
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter (for brushing)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven and prepare the baking sheet: Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Mix the dry ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and garlic powder.
  3. Cut in the butter: Using a pastry cutter or your fingers, cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Add cheese and buttermilk: Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese, then pour in the cold buttermilk and gently mix until the dough comes together.
  5. Shape and bake: Turn the dough out onto a floured surface, pat into a rectangle, fold, and repeat. Cut into rounds or squares, place on the baking sheet, and bake for 12–15 minutes until golden brown.
  6. Brush with butter: Once baked, brush the warm biscuits with melted butter before serving.

Notes

  • For an herby twist, add chopped chives or parsley to the dough.
  • These biscuits are best served fresh but can be frozen and reheated.
