Ingredients
Scale
For the Chicken Patties
- 1 pound ground chicken
- 1/2 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 1 chipotle pepper in adobo sauce, minced
- 1 tablespoon adobo sauce
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup finely chopped red onion
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
For Cooking & Serving
- 1 tablespoon olive oil (for cooking)
- 4 burger buns
- Optional toppings: lettuce, tomato, red onion, avocado, chipotle mayo
Instructions
- Mix the Patty Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the ground chicken, shredded cheddar cheese, minced chipotle pepper, adobo sauce, garlic, red onion, cilantro, cumin, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until just combined, being careful not to overwork the mixture to keep patties tender.
- Form Patties: Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each into a round patty, about 3/4 inch thick. Make sure the patties are uniform for even cooking.
- Heat the Pan: Heat the olive oil in a skillet or grill pan over medium heat until shimmering. This will ensure proper browning and prevent sticking.
- Cook the Patties: Place the patties in the pan and cook for 5 to 6 minutes on one side until golden brown. Flip carefully and cook the other side for another 5 to 6 minutes, until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C) and the burgers are cooked through.
- Toast the Buns: If desired, lightly toast the burger buns in the skillet or in a toaster to add texture and warmth.
- Assemble the Burgers: Place each cooked patty on the bottom bun, add your favorite toppings such as lettuce, tomato, red onion, avocado, and a spread of chipotle mayo. Top with the bun and serve immediately for the best flavor and juiciness.
Notes
- Adjust the heat level by using more or less chipotle pepper depending on your spice preference.
- These patties can be cooked outdoors on a grill or air-fried as alternatives to stovetop cooking.
- For a low-carb option, serve the burgers in lettuce wraps instead of buns.
- Avoid overmixing the chicken mixture to keep patties tender and juicy.
