Ingredients
Scale
Macaroon Ingredients
- 2 1/2 cups shredded sweetened coconut
- 2/3 cup sweetened condensed milk
- 2 large egg whites
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
Optional Chocolate Dip
- 1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C) and prepare a baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat to prevent sticking.
- Mix Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the shredded sweetened coconut, sweetened condensed milk, egg whites, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Stir thoroughly until all ingredients are well incorporated into a sticky mixture.
- Shape the Macaroons: Using a tablespoon, scoop portions of the coconut mixture and shape them into mounds or small balls. Place them on the prepared baking sheet, spacing each about 1 inch apart to allow for even baking.
- Bake: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake the macaroons for 15-20 minutes. They are done when the edges turn golden brown and the tops are firm to the touch.
- Cool: Remove the macaroons from the oven and let them cool briefly on the baking sheet. Then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely to maintain their shape and texture.
- Optional Chocolate Dipping: If desired, melt the semisweet chocolate chips using a microwave or double boiler. Dip the bottoms of the cooled macaroons into the melted chocolate and place them on parchment paper to allow the chocolate to set before serving.
Notes
- Ensure egg whites are fresh and at room temperature for better mixture binding.
- Do not overbake as this can dry out the macaroons; watch for golden edges as the indicator.
- Chocolate dipping is optional but adds a delicious contrast to the sweet coconut flavor.
- Store macaroons in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week.
