Basic Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 1/4 cups whole milk
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
Flavorings & Cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon Italian seasoning (optional)
- Pinch of red pepper flakes (optional)
Instructions
- Melt Butter and Sauté Garlic: In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the minced garlic and sauté for 1–2 minutes until fragrant but not browned.
- Make Roux: Stir in the flour and cook for 1 minute, whisking constantly to form a smooth roux that thickens the sauce.
- Add Milk and Cream: Slowly whisk in the milk and heavy cream, stirring continuously to prevent lumps. Cook for 3–5 minutes until the sauce thickens to a creamy consistency.
- Incorporate Cheese and Seasonings: Stir in the grated Parmesan cheese, salt, black pepper, and optional Italian seasoning and red pepper flakes. Cook for another minute until the cheese melts and the sauce is smooth.
- Cool and Use: Remove from heat and let the sauce cool slightly before spreading it over pizza dough or using as desired.
