Ingredients
Scale
Filling
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1 cup cooked crab meat, finely chopped (or imitation crab)
- 2 green onions, finely sliced
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon soy sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Assembly
- 24 wonton wrappers
- 1 egg, beaten (for sealing)
Cooking
- Vegetable oil for frying
Instructions
- Prepare the Filling: In a medium bowl, mix together the softened cream cheese, finely chopped crab meat, sliced green onions, garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, sesame oil, salt, and black pepper. Stir until the mixture is smooth and all ingredients are well combined.
- Fill the Wontons: Lay the wonton wrappers flat on a clean surface. Place about 1 teaspoon of the crab filling in the center of each wrapper. Brush the edges with beaten egg to help seal.
- Shape the Bites: Fold the wonton wrappers into triangles or bring the corners together to form small bundles. Press the edges firmly to seal tightly so the filling does not leak during cooking.
- Heat the Oil: In a deep pan or skillet, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Make sure there is enough oil to submerge the wontons for even frying.
- Fry the Wontons: Fry the filled wontons in batches, cooking them for 2 to 3 minutes each, or until they turn golden brown and crispy. Stir gently to prevent sticking or uneven cooking.
- Drain and Serve: Use a slotted spoon to remove the fried wontons from the oil and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve warm with sweet chili sauce or duck sauce for dipping.
Notes
- Do not overfill the wonton wrappers to avoid bursting during frying.
- For a lighter version, air fry the wontons at 375°F (190°C) for 8 to 10 minutes, spraying them lightly with oil before cooking.
- Serve with sweet chili sauce or duck sauce to enhance the flavor.
- Ensure the oil is at the correct temperature before frying to achieve a crispy texture without absorbing excess oil.
