Ingredients
Scale
Meat and Vegetables
- 2 lbs flank steak or ribeye, thinly sliced
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 1 large bell pepper, thinly sliced (optional)
Seasonings and Liquids
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
Bread and Cheese
- 8 hoagie rolls or sub rolls
- 8 slices provolone cheese (or American cheese)
Instructions
- Sear the Steak: Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the thinly sliced flank steak or ribeye and sear it for 2-3 minutes until browned, working in batches to avoid overcrowding the pan.
- Transfer to Crock Pot: Place the seared steak into the Crock Pot. Add the sliced onion, bell pepper if using, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.
- Add Broth and Worcestershire Sauce: Pour in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce. Stir all ingredients together to combine well, then cover the Crock Pot with the lid.
- Cook Slowly: Cook on low heat for 6-7 hours or on high heat for 3-4 hours until the meat becomes tender and fully cooked.
- Shred the Meat: Once cooking is complete, use tongs to stir and break the meat into bite-sized pieces. Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary.
- Assemble Sandwiches: Spoon the meat mixture onto hoagie rolls. Top each with a slice of provolone cheese. Melt the cheese under a broiler or in the microwave if desired.
- Serve: Serve the hot Philly Cheesesteak sandwiches immediately and enjoy.
Notes
- Searing the steak before slow cooking adds extra flavor and helps lock in juices.
- Bell peppers are optional but add sweetness and color.
- You can substitute provolone cheese with American or any melting cheese of your choice.
- To melt cheese faster, place assembled sandwiches under the oven broiler for 1-2 minutes, watching carefully to prevent burning.
- Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days and reheated gently on the stovetop or microwave.
