Ingredients
Scale
Beef Patties
- 1 lb ground beef (80/20)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Caramelized Onions
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
- 2 large yellow onions, thinly sliced
- ½ teaspoon sugar
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
Other Ingredients
- 4 croissants, halved horizontally
- 4 slices Gruyère cheese
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 1 tablespoon mayonnaise
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- Fresh thyme leaves (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- Caramelize the Onions: Heat olive oil and butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add thinly sliced onions, sugar, salt, and black pepper. Cook slowly, stirring often, for 20–25 minutes until onions turn a golden brown and are fully caramelized.
- Prepare the Patties: While the onions cook, divide the ground beef into 4 equal patties. Season both sides with salt and pepper.
- Cook the Patties: Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook patties for 3–4 minutes per side or until desired doneness is reached. In the last minute, place a slice of Gruyère cheese on each patty and cover to melt the cheese.
- Toast the Croissants: Lightly toast the cut sides of the croissants until crisp and golden.
- Make the Sauce: In a small bowl, combine Dijon mustard, mayonnaise, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix well.
- Assemble the Burgers: Spread the sauce on the bottom halves of the croissants. Top each with a cheesy beef patty, a generous portion of caramelized onions, and fresh thyme leaves if using. Cover with the top croissant halves and serve immediately.
Notes
- For extra richness, spread a thin layer of garlic butter on the croissants before toasting.
- Swiss cheese can be used as a substitute if Gruyère is unavailable.
- Caramelized onions can be prepared ahead of time and refrigerated for up to 4 days for convenience.
