  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven and prepare the pan: Preheat the oven to 350°F and line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. Make the brownie layer: Whisk together melted butter and sugar. Add eggs and vanilla, mix, then add cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder. Pour into the pan.
  3. Prepare the cookie layer: Cream together softened butter and sugars, beat in egg and vanilla. Add flour, baking soda, salt, and chocolate chips.
  4. Layer the dough: Drop spoonfuls of cookie dough over the brownie batter and spread gently.
  5. Bake: Bake for 30–35 minutes until a toothpick comes out with moist crumbs.
  6. Cool and slice: Let cool completely before slicing into squares.
