Ingredients
Scale
For the Mushroom Sauté
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 8 ounces mushrooms, sliced
- Salt and pepper, to taste
For the Sandwiches
- 4 slices bread
- 4 slices cheese (such as cheddar or Swiss)
- Additional butter, for grilling
Instructions
- Sauté Garlic: In a skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.
- Cook Mushrooms: Add the sliced mushrooms to the skillet with the garlic. Cook for 5 to 7 minutes until the mushrooms become tender and golden brown. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Remove from heat and set aside.
- Prepare Bread: Heat a separate skillet or griddle over medium heat. Spread a thin layer of butter on one side of each bread slice to ensure golden crispiness.
- Assemble Sandwiches: Place two slices of bread, buttered side down, on the heated skillet. Layer each with a slice of cheese, then evenly divide the cooked mushrooms on top of the cheese.
- Top and Grill: Place the remaining slices of bread on top of the mushrooms with the buttered side facing up.
- Cook Until Golden: Grill the sandwiches for 2 to 3 minutes on each side or until the bread is a beautiful golden brown and the cheese has melted thoroughly.
- Serve: Remove the sandwiches from the skillet and allow them to cool for a minute before slicing. Serve warm and enjoy!
Notes
- Use your preferred type of cheese; cheddar and Swiss both melt well and taste great.
- For extra richness, you can add a little grated Parmesan to the mushroom mixture.
- Substitute the bread with gluten-free varieties if you require a gluten-free meal.
- Make sure the skillet is at medium heat to avoid burning the bread before the cheese melts.
- Add fresh herbs like thyme or parsley to the mushroom mix for an enhanced flavor profile.
