Ingredients
Scale
For the Dough and Filling
- 1 lb pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)
- 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup marinara sauce (plus extra for dipping)
- 1/2 tsp dried oregano
- 1/2 tsp dried basil
- 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
For the Garlic Parmesan Coating
- 4 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp chopped fresh parsley
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/2 tsp salt
Instructions
- Prepare the Dough: Roll out the pizza dough on a floured surface to form a rectangle approximately 12 by 16 inches for easy rolling and cutting.
- Add the Filling: Spread the marinara sauce evenly over the dough, leaving about a 1-inch border. Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella, dried oregano, dried basil, red pepper flakes if using, and 1/4 cup Parmesan evenly on top.
- Roll and Slice: Starting from one long edge, tightly roll the dough into a log shape. Cut the log into 12 equal-sized rolls using a sharp knife or dental floss for clean cuts.
- Arrange and Bake: Place the rolls cut-side up on a greased or parchment-lined baking sheet, spaced about 1 inch apart. Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through.
- Make Garlic Butter Sauce: While the rolls bake, combine melted butter, minced garlic, chopped parsley, grated Parmesan, and salt in a bowl. Stir until well combined.
- Coat the Hot Rolls: As soon as you remove the rolls from the oven, brush each generously with the garlic Parmesan butter mixture to soak in the flavors.
- Serve: Serve warm with extra marinara sauce for dipping. Enjoy these savory, cheesy rolls right away for best taste and texture.
Notes
- You can use homemade or store-bought pizza dough depending on time availability.
- Adjust red pepper flakes to your desired spiciness or omit if preferred mild.
- Make sure to brush the garlic butter while rolls are hot to maximize flavor absorption.
- Serve immediately for the best fresh texture; leftovers can be reheated in the oven.
- Add cooked pepperoni or sausage inside for a meatier variation.
