Ingredients

Scale

Chicken Wings

  • 2 1/2 lb party chicken wing dings (disjointed with tips removed)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 8 tsp jerk seasoning (up to 9 tsp for extra heat)
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • Cooking spray

Sauce

  • 2 tbsp salted butter
  • 5 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1 1/2 tsp tamari (gluten-free soy sauce)
  • 1/4 tsp gluten-free hot sauce
  • 1/4 tsp ground ginger (or fresh grated ginger)
  • 1/8 tsp smoked paprika

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Wings: In a large bowl, pat dry the chicken wings with a paper towel to remove excess moisture. Season the wings with salt, pepper, jerk seasoning, and baking powder. Toss well to evenly coat all the wings.
  2. Preheat and Arrange Wings: Set the air fryer to 400°F (200°C). Spray the air fryer rack or basket with cooking spray to prevent sticking. Arrange the wings evenly in the rack without overcrowding them, allowing hot air to circulate.
  3. Air Fry Wings Initial Cooking: Cook the wings for 15 to 17 minutes, flipping them halfway through the cooking time to ensure even crispiness. They should be nearly cooked and crispy at this point.
  4. Make the Honey Garlic Sauce: While the wings cook, melt the salted butter in a pot over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté briefly until fragrant, about 1 minute.
  5. Add Sauce Ingredients: Stir in the honey, tamari, gluten-free hot sauce, ground or grated ginger, and smoked paprika. Let the sauce simmer gently for 3 to 4 minutes. Remove from heat once well combined.
  6. Coat Wings and Final Cook: When the wings are done with the first cooking stage, toss or brush them with the honey garlic jerk sauce. Return the coated wings to the air fryer and cook for an additional 8 minutes to caramelize the sauce and finish cooking the wings.
  7. Serve and Enjoy: Remove the wings from the air fryer, serve immediately, and enjoy these crispy, sticky, and flavorful honey garlic jerk wings.

Notes

  • Patting the wings dry is crucial for achieving crispy skin in the air fryer.
  • Adjust the jerk seasoning amount to control the heat level according to your preference.
  • Make sure not to overcrowd the air fryer basket to ensure even cooking.
  • Use gluten-free tamari to keep this recipe gluten-free.
  • For extra smoky flavor, add a pinch more smoked paprika to the sauce.
