Tofu:

  • 1 block (400g) firm tofu, cut into 1/2-inch thick slices
  • 1 tablespoon neutral oil

Sauce:

  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon gochugaru (Korean red pepper flakes)
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/2 onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 green onion, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon toasted sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Tofu: Pat the tofu dry and pan-fry until golden brown. Set aside.
  2. Make the Sauce: In the same pan, combine water, soy sauce, gochugaru, sesame oil, sugar, and garlic. Simmer.
  3. Braise the Tofu: Return tofu to the pan, add onion slices, and simmer for 5–7 minutes.
  4. Finish and Serve: Garnish with green onion and sesame seeds before serving.

Notes

  • For a milder version, reduce the gochugaru or substitute with sweet paprika.
  • Serve with steamed rice for a complete meal.
