Ingredients
Scale
Pound Cake
- 1 package Absolutely Almond Pound Cake Mix™
- ¾ cup water
- ¾ cup applesauce
- 1 large egg
Pudding Mixture
- 1½ cups skim milk
- 1 (1 ounce) package sugar-free vanilla-flavored instant pudding mix
- 1 (8 ounce) container zero-sugar frozen whipped topping, thawed
Fruit
- 2 cups sliced fresh strawberries
- 2 cups fresh blueberries
Instructions
- Prepare Pound Cake: Preheat your oven according to the pound cake mix package instructions. Prepare the Absolutely Almond Pound Cake Mix using water, applesauce, and egg as directed on the package. Bake the cake and allow it to cool completely. Once cooled, cut the cake into cubes.
- Make Pudding Mixture: In a large bowl, whisk together skim milk and the sugar-free vanilla pudding mix for 2 minutes until fully combined and starting to thicken. Gently fold in the thawed zero-sugar whipped topping until the pudding mixture is smooth and creamy.
- Layer the Trifle: In a trifle dish, large glass serving bowl, or individual trifle bowls, start with a layer of half the cake cubes. Follow with half the pudding mixture and then half of the fresh sliced strawberries and blueberries. Repeat the layers with the remaining cake cubes, pudding mixture, and berries.
- Chill: Cover the assembled trifle with plastic wrap or a lid and refrigerate for at least one hour to allow the flavors to meld and the dessert to set before serving.
Notes
- Ensure the pound cake is completely cooled before cubing to prevent it from becoming soggy.
- You can substitute fresh berries with other fruits such as raspberries or peaches depending on the season and preference.
- For added texture, sprinkle sliced almonds or crushed nuts between layers.
- This dessert is best served chilled and consumed within 2 days for optimal freshness.
