Ingredients
Scale
Vegetables
- 2 pounds fresh green beans, trimmed and cut into 2-inch pieces
- 3 ripe tomatoes, diced
- 1 large onion, sliced into wedges
- 10 cloves garlic (5 whole, 5 sliced)
Other Ingredients
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 tablespoons tomato sauce
- 1 cup water
Instructions
- Prepare the Vegetables: Wash and trim the green beans, cutting them into 2-inch pieces; dice the tomatoes; slice the onion into wedges; leave 5 garlic cloves whole and slice the other 5 cloves into round pieces.
- Sauté Aromatics: Heat olive oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add the whole garlic cloves and sliced onions and sauté until the onions soften and become translucent, about 5 minutes.
- Add Tomatoes: Stir in diced tomatoes and tomato sauce into the pan. Cook the mixture for 2-3 minutes until well combined and aromatic.
- Combine Green Beans: Add the trimmed green beans and 1 cup of water to the pan. Season with salt and stir everything together evenly.
- Simmer the Dish: Cover the pan and let it simmer gently for 20-25 minutes, or until the green beans are tender, ensuring the flavors meld beautifully.
Notes
- Use fresh, crisp green beans for the best texture and flavor.
- Adjust the salt to taste if you prefer a less salty dish.
- Serve warm or at room temperature as a side dish with rice or flatbread.
- Leftovers can be refrigerated and taste even better the next day as flavors deepen.
