Scale
Main Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 1/2 cups orzo pasta
- 2 cups chicken broth
- 1 cup broccoli florets
- 1/2 cup grated cheddar cheese
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Sauté Aromatics: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, sautéing for about 3 minutes until they become soft and fragrant.
- Cook Orzo with Broth and Broccoli: Stir in the orzo pasta, chicken broth, and broccoli florets. Increase the heat to bring the mixture to a simmer, then cook for 8 to 10 minutes until the orzo is tender and most of the liquid has been absorbed.
- Add Cheese and Cream: Remove from heat and stir in the grated cheddar cheese and heavy cream until the cheese melts into a creamy sauce. Season with salt and pepper to your taste, then serve immediately.
Notes
- For a vegetarian option, substitute vegetable broth for chicken broth.
- Feel free to use a sharp white cheddar for a sharper flavor.
- You can add cooked chicken or bacon for extra protein and flavor.
- If you want a thinner sauce, add a splash more broth or cream.
- Make sure to stir frequently while cooking the orzo to prevent it from sticking to the pan.
