Ingredients
Scale
For the Patties
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
For the Sandwich
- 6 slices rye bread
- 6 tablespoons butter, softened and unsalted
- 6 slices cheddar cheese
- 6 slices provolone cheese
For the Secret Sauce
- 1/4 cup mayonnaise
- 2 tablespoons chopped bacon pieces
- 3 tablespoons ketchup
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon relish
Instructions
- Prepare the Patties: Form the ground beef into 3 equal, flattened patties and season both sides evenly with onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper for a balanced flavor.
- Cook the Patties: Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and cook the patties until fully cooked through, about 4-5 minutes per side. Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside to rest.
- Make the Secret Sauce: In a small bowl, combine mayonnaise, chopped bacon pieces, ketchup, sugar, and relish. Stir thoroughly to blend the flavors into a creamy, tangy sauce.
- Toast the Bread: Butter one side of each slice of rye bread generously. Place the buttered side down in the skillet and toast until golden brown.
- Assemble: On the toasted side of each bread slice in the skillet, layer 2 slices of provolone cheese, one cooked beef patty, and 2 slices of cheddar cheese. Spread the secret sauce on the unbuttered side of the remaining bread slices and place these on top of the cheese, secret sauce side down.
- Grill the Sandwiches: Continue cooking the sandwiches in the skillet, flipping once the cheese starts to melt and the bottom bread is toasted to a golden brown. Toast the other side until it is equally golden and the cheese inside is fully melted.
- Serve: Remove the sandwiches from the skillet and serve warm. Enjoy the gooey, savory goodness of the patty melts with the flavorful bacon secret sauce.
Notes
- Use softened butter for easy spreading and even toasting.
- For extra crispiness, cook bacon pieces fresh rather than using pre-cooked ones.
- Feel free to substitute rye bread with sourdough for a different flavor profile.
- Adjust seasoning to taste if preferred spicier or milder.
- Make sure the skillet is properly heated but not smoking to avoid burning the bread.
