Description

Classic Patty Melts with a twist of crispy bacon-infused secret sauce, layered with melted cheddar and provolone cheese on toasted rye bread for a deliciously savory sandwich perfect for a quick and satisfying meal.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Patties

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the Sandwich

  • 6 slices rye bread
  • 6 tablespoons butter, softened and unsalted
  • 6 slices cheddar cheese
  • 6 slices provolone cheese

For the Secret Sauce

  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons chopped bacon pieces
  • 3 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon relish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Patties: Form the ground beef into 3 equal, flattened patties and season both sides evenly with onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper for a balanced flavor.
  2. Cook the Patties: Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and cook the patties until fully cooked through, about 4-5 minutes per side. Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside to rest.
  3. Make the Secret Sauce: In a small bowl, combine mayonnaise, chopped bacon pieces, ketchup, sugar, and relish. Stir thoroughly to blend the flavors into a creamy, tangy sauce.
  4. Toast the Bread: Butter one side of each slice of rye bread generously. Place the buttered side down in the skillet and toast until golden brown.
  5. Assemble: On the toasted side of each bread slice in the skillet, layer 2 slices of provolone cheese, one cooked beef patty, and 2 slices of cheddar cheese. Spread the secret sauce on the unbuttered side of the remaining bread slices and place these on top of the cheese, secret sauce side down.
  6. Grill the Sandwiches: Continue cooking the sandwiches in the skillet, flipping once the cheese starts to melt and the bottom bread is toasted to a golden brown. Toast the other side until it is equally golden and the cheese inside is fully melted.
  7. Serve: Remove the sandwiches from the skillet and serve warm. Enjoy the gooey, savory goodness of the patty melts with the flavorful bacon secret sauce.

Notes

  • Use softened butter for easy spreading and even toasting.
  • For extra crispiness, cook bacon pieces fresh rather than using pre-cooked ones.
  • Feel free to substitute rye bread with sourdough for a different flavor profile.
  • Adjust seasoning to taste if preferred spicier or milder.
  • Make sure the skillet is properly heated but not smoking to avoid burning the bread.
