Description

These Salted Peanut Butter Rice Krispies Treats combine the classic crunchy cereal snack with creamy peanut butter and a touch of sea salt for an irresistible sweet and salty flavor. Perfectly chewy and easy to make, these treats are great for dessert or a fun snack.

Ingredients

Scale

Base Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter (natural or regular)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • 10 oz marshmallows (mini or regular)
  • 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal

Topping (Optional)

  • Flaky sea salt (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Pan: Lightly grease a 9×13-inch pan with butter or cooking spray and set aside to prevent sticking.
  2. Melt the Base: In a large pot over medium heat, melt the unsalted butter and creamy peanut butter together, stirring constantly until the mixture is smooth and well combined. Add the marshmallows and continue stirring until they are fully melted and integrated into the mixture.
  3. Flavor Boost: Remove the pot from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and fine sea salt to enhance the flavor with a subtle salty sweetness.
  4. Mix It Up: Add the Rice Krispies cereal to the melted marshmallow and peanut butter mixture. Gently fold the cereal in until all pieces are evenly coated with the sticky base.
  5. Press Into Pan: Transfer the combined mixture into the prepared pan. Using a greased spatula or oiled hands, press the mixture down gently and evenly to form a compact layer.
  6. Add Flaky Salt: While still warm, sprinkle flaky sea salt evenly over the top of the treats to add a crunchy salty finish, if desired.
  7. Cool and Slice: Allow the treats to cool at room temperature for about 30 minutes, letting them set firmly. Once cooled, slice into 12 squares and serve.

Notes

  • For easier pressing, grease your spatula or hands to prevent sticking.
  • You can use either mini or regular marshmallows, both work well.
  • If you prefer a stronger peanut flavor, use natural peanut butter.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days to keep them fresh.
  • Adding flaky sea salt on top is optional but enhances the sweet and salty contrast.
