Description

Learn how to make a classic American comfort food, Sloppy Joes, with this easy and delicious recipe. Perfect for a quick weeknight meal that the whole family will love.

Ingredients

Scale

Ground Beef Mixture:

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • ½ cup onion, finely chopped
  • ½ cup green bell pepper, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

Sauce:

  • ¾ cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

Additional:

  • 4 hamburger buns
  • Butter for toasting (optional)

Instructions

  1. Cook Ground Beef: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned, breaking it up as it cooks, about 5–7 minutes. Drain any excess grease.
  2. Add Vegetables: Add the onion, bell pepper, and garlic. Cook for another 3–4 minutes, or until the vegetables are soft.
  3. Make Sauce: Stir in ketchup, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, brown sugar, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10–15 minutes until thickened.
  4. Toast Buns: Toast the buns in butter if desired.
  5. Assemble: Spoon the mixture onto bun halves, top with the other halves, and serve warm.

Notes

  • For a leaner option, use ground turkey or chicken.
  • You can add hot sauce or red pepper flakes for a spicy kick.
  • Filling can be made ahead and stored for up to 3 days.
