- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter (melted)
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)
For Frying:

For Honey Butter:
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 tablespoon honey
Instructions
- Dry Ingredients: In a mixing bowl, whisk together cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, mix buttermilk, honey, melted butter, and egg until combined. Pour wet ingredients into dry and stir until just mixed. Fold in shredded cheese if using.
- Frying: Heat oil in a deep skillet to 350°F. Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of batter and fry in batches for 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
- Honey Butter: In a small bowl, combine 2 tablespoons butter and 1 tablespoon honey for the dipping sauce. Serve poppers warm with honey butter.
Notes
- For spicier poppers, add a pinch of cayenne or chopped jalapeños to the batter.
- Best enjoyed fresh but can be reheated in the oven for a crispy texture.
