- 1 green bell pepper, diced
- 1 red bell pepper, diced
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 small jalapeño, finely chopped
Spices & Seasonings
- 2 tablespoons chili powder
- 2 teaspoons smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon brown sugar
Other Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon hot sauce (optional)
Instructions
- Brown the Meat: Heat olive oil in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium heat. Add the ground beef and ground pork and cook until browned, breaking the meat apart as it cooks. Drain excess fat if needed.
- Sauté Vegetables: Add diced onion and bell peppers to the pot and cook for about 5 minutes until softened.
- Add Aromatics: Stir in the minced garlic and finely chopped jalapeño, cooking for 1 minute until fragrant.
- Incorporate Spices: Add chili powder, smoked paprika, cumin, oregano, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper. Stir well to evenly coat the meat and vegetables with spices.
- Develop Flavor: Mix in the tomato paste and cook for 1 to 2 minutes to deepen the flavors.
- Add Liquids and Sauces: Pour in crushed tomatoes and beef broth. Stir in Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce (if using), and brown sugar. Stir to combine all ingredients.
- Simmer the Chili: Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer. Reduce heat to low and cook uncovered for 35 to 45 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thick and flavorful.
- Final Taste Adjustment: Taste the chili and adjust seasoning as needed before serving.
Notes
- For deeper flavor, allow the chili to simmer longer or refrigerate overnight and reheat the next day.
- You can substitute ground turkey for beef and pork if preferred.
- Add diced chipotle peppers in adobo sauce for extra smokiness and heat.
