Ingredients
Scale
For the Halloumi
- 225g halloumi cheese, cut into thick sticks
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 50g all-purpose flour
- 80g finely crushed pistachios
- 40g panko breadcrumbs
- 1 teaspoon sesame seeds
- Neutral oil for shallow frying
For the Swicy Glaze
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon chili flakes
- 1 teaspoon finely chopped fresh red chili
- Juice of ½ lime
For Serving
- Chopped pistachios
- Fresh mint leaves (optional)
- Lime wedges
Instructions
- Prepare the dredging bowls. Set up three separate bowls: one with all-purpose flour, one with the beaten eggs, and one with a mixture of finely crushed pistachios, panko breadcrumbs, and sesame seeds.
- Coat the halloumi sticks. Dip each halloumi stick first into the flour ensuring an even coat, then into the beaten eggs, and finally roll them thoroughly in the pistachio, panko, and sesame seed mixture until fully covered.
- Shallow fry the halloumi. Heat a shallow layer of neutral oil in a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Carefully place the coated halloumi sticks in the pan and fry them for 2 to 3 minutes on each side until they turn a beautiful golden brown color and become crispy.
- Drain excess oil. Remove the fried halloumi sticks and place them on a wire rack or paper towels to drain any excess oil, allowing them to stay crispier.
- Make the swicy lime glaze. In a small saucepan over low heat, combine the honey, soy sauce, chili flakes, freshly chopped red chili, and juice of half a lime. Simmer the mixture for about 1 minute until it thickens slightly and develops a glaze consistency.
- Serve with glaze and garnishes. Arrange the fried halloumi sticks on a serving plate. Drizzle them generously with the swicy lime glaze. Sprinkle extra chopped pistachios on top and garnish with fresh mint leaves and lime wedges for a refreshing finish.
Notes
- Use a non-stick skillet to prevent sticking and ensure even frying.
- Adjust the chili flakes and chopped chili according to your heat preference.
- Let the oil heat up before frying for best crispiness.
- Serve immediately to enjoy the halloumi at its crispiest.
- The lime juice in the glaze adds a bright, tangy balance to the sweet and spicy notes.
