Description

This Teriyaki Turkey Stir Fry is a quick and flavorful dish that combines tender ground turkey and fresh vegetables in a homemade teriyaki sauce. Ready in just 30 minutes, it’s a perfect weeknight meal that delivers a delicious balance of savory, sweet, and tangy flavors, served best over steamed rice.

Ingredients

Scale

Teriyaki Sauce

  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup water, divided
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated or minced
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest

Stir Fry

  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • 2 teaspoons sesame oil
  • 3 cups broccoli florets, fresh or frozen
  • 1 small onion, small diced
  • 1 cup shredded carrots
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Make the Teriyaki Sauce: In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine 3/4 cup water, soy sauce, minced garlic, grated ginger, honey, and brown sugar. Bring the mixture to a low boil, stirring occasionally to dissolve the sugar.
  2. Thicken the Sauce: In a separate small bowl, whisk together the remaining 1/4 cup water and cornstarch until the cornstarch dissolves completely. Slowly pour this mixture into the boiling sauce, stirring continuously to avoid lumps. Allow the sauce to thicken, then remove from heat and stir in the orange zest. Set the sauce aside.
  3. Prepare the Stir Fry Base: Heat sesame oil in a wok or large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the diced onion and cook, stirring frequently, until softened and translucent, about 3 to 4 minutes.
  4. Cook the Turkey: Add the ground turkey to the skillet with the onions. Break it apart and cook thoroughly until no pink remains and the turkey is fully cooked through, approximately 6 to 8 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  5. Add the Vegetables: Stir in the broccoli florets and shredded carrots into the skillet. Continue cooking, stirring often, until the vegetables are tender but still crisp, about 5 minutes.
  6. Combine with Sauce: Reduce the heat to low and pour the prepared teriyaki sauce over the turkey and vegetables. Stir well to coat everything evenly. Let the mixture simmer gently for 2 to 3 minutes to allow the flavors to meld and sauce to heat through.
  7. Serve: Remove from heat and serve the teriyaki turkey stir fry hot over freshly steamed rice or your preferred grain. Enjoy your flavorful and healthy meal!

Notes

  • You can substitute ground chicken or pork for turkey if preferred.
  • Use fresh vegetables for the best texture, but frozen broccoli works well for convenience.
  • Adjust sweetness by varying the amount of brown sugar and honey according to taste.
  • For a gluten-free version, use tamari or a gluten-free soy sauce alternative.
  • Add crushed red pepper flakes for a spicy kick if desired.
