Ingredients
Scale
Tofu:
- 1 block (400g) extra-firm tofu, pressed and cubed
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon neutral oil
Sauce:
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce (or vegetarian oyster sauce)
- 1 tablespoon mirin
- 1 tablespoon maple syrup or honey
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 teaspoon grated ginger
- 1 green onion, chopped
- 1/2 teaspoon chili flakes (optional)
- 1 tablespoon toasted sesame seeds
Instructions
- Prepare Tofu: Pat the tofu dry and toss it in cornstarch until evenly coated.
- Pan-Fry Tofu: Heat oil in a nonstick skillet over medium heat. Add tofu cubes and pan-fry until golden and crispy, about 6–8 minutes.
- Make Sauce: Mix soy sauce, oyster sauce, mirin, maple syrup, sesame oil, garlic, and ginger in a bowl.
- Cook with Sauce: Pour the sauce over tofu, stir to coat, and cook until sauce thickens, about 1–2 minutes.
- Finish and Serve: Turn off heat, add green onions and chili flakes, sprinkle with sesame seeds, and serve hot.
Notes
- For extra texture, air fry the tofu instead of pan-frying.
- Serve over rice, noodles, or sautéed greens for a complete meal.
- Use tamari to make it gluten-free.
