Description

This Whipped Feta Dip is a creamy, tangy, and flavorful appetizer that combines crumbled feta cheese with olive oil, Greek yogurt, lemon juice, and fresh herbs. Perfectly smooth and rich, it’s an easy-to-make dip great for pairing with pita bread, fresh vegetables, or crackers. The addition of garlic and herbs like dill and mint adds a refreshing depth, making it a versatile and crowd-pleasing dish for any gathering or snack time.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1 (8 ounce) package feta cheese, crumbled
  • 1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil (high-quality recommended)
  • 1/4 cup plain Greek yogurt (unsweetened)
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice, freshly squeezed
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

For Garnish and Serving

  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh dill, for garnish
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh mint, for garnish
  • Pita bread, vegetables (cucumber, bell peppers, carrots, etc.), or crackers, for serving

Instructions

  1. Bring Feta to Room Temperature: Let the crumbled feta cheese sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes to soften. This helps achieve a smoother, creamier texture when whipped.
  2. Combine Ingredients: Place the room-temperature feta in a food processor or a stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment. Add the olive oil, Greek yogurt, freshly squeezed lemon juice, minced garlic, dried oregano, and red pepper flakes if using.
  3. Blend Until Smooth: Process the mixture for 2 to 3 minutes until it becomes completely smooth and creamy. If mixing by hand, beat the ingredients longer to reach the desired consistency.
  4. Season to Taste: Taste the dip and add salt and freshly ground black pepper according to your preference, mixing again briefly to incorporate the seasoning.
  5. Chill and Meld Flavors: Transfer the whipped feta dip to a serving bowl, cover it, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes. Chilling thickens the dip and allows the flavors to meld beautifully.
  6. Garnish and Serve: Just before serving, garnish the dip with chopped fresh dill and mint. Serve alongside pita bread, fresh vegetables like cucumber, bell peppers, and carrots, or crispy crackers.

Notes

  • Using high-quality extra virgin olive oil enhances the flavor and richness of the dip.
  • If you prefer a spicier dip, increase the amount of red pepper flakes or add a pinch of cayenne pepper.
  • For a dairy-free version, substitute Greek yogurt with a plant-based yogurt, but the texture may vary slightly.
  • Letting the dip chill improves its thickness and flavor; however, it can also be served immediately if needed.
  • Feel free to experiment with additional herbs such as parsley or chives for varied flavor profiles.
