Ingredients
Scale
Main Ingredients
- 1 (8 ounce) package feta cheese, crumbled
- 1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil (high-quality recommended)
- 1/4 cup plain Greek yogurt (unsweetened)
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice, freshly squeezed
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
For Garnish and Serving
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh dill, for garnish
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh mint, for garnish
- Pita bread, vegetables (cucumber, bell peppers, carrots, etc.), or crackers, for serving
Instructions
- Bring Feta to Room Temperature: Let the crumbled feta cheese sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes to soften. This helps achieve a smoother, creamier texture when whipped.
- Combine Ingredients: Place the room-temperature feta in a food processor or a stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment. Add the olive oil, Greek yogurt, freshly squeezed lemon juice, minced garlic, dried oregano, and red pepper flakes if using.
- Blend Until Smooth: Process the mixture for 2 to 3 minutes until it becomes completely smooth and creamy. If mixing by hand, beat the ingredients longer to reach the desired consistency.
- Season to Taste: Taste the dip and add salt and freshly ground black pepper according to your preference, mixing again briefly to incorporate the seasoning.
- Chill and Meld Flavors: Transfer the whipped feta dip to a serving bowl, cover it, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes. Chilling thickens the dip and allows the flavors to meld beautifully.
- Garnish and Serve: Just before serving, garnish the dip with chopped fresh dill and mint. Serve alongside pita bread, fresh vegetables like cucumber, bell peppers, and carrots, or crispy crackers.
Notes
- Using high-quality extra virgin olive oil enhances the flavor and richness of the dip.
- If you prefer a spicier dip, increase the amount of red pepper flakes or add a pinch of cayenne pepper.
- For a dairy-free version, substitute Greek yogurt with a plant-based yogurt, but the texture may vary slightly.
- Letting the dip chill improves its thickness and flavor; however, it can also be served immediately if needed.
- Feel free to experiment with additional herbs such as parsley or chives for varied flavor profiles.
